HISTORY OF HOGENAKKAL
The river Cauvery originates in the Brahmagiri hills of Western Ghats at Thalakaveri in Kodagu district of Karnataka. The Cauvery enters Tamilnadu at Hogenakkal and is considered particularly sacred at this spot. The pool into which it falls, is called ‘Vagnakundam” or the Sacrificial pit. Apart from its religious sacredness, it is a place of peaceful atmosphere and great natural beauty. Hence Hogenakkal has emerged as a flagship eco-tourism Centre.
Though Hogenakkal comes under the administrative purview of Dharmapuri Forest Division, Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation (TTDC) has developed this place as a tourism spot.
